Do You Qualify?
Before you spend time on paperwork, make sure you meet the basic requirements. You can apply for PR for Indians in Singapore if you are:
- Working here on an Employment Pass (EP) or S Pass.
- The husband, wife, or child (under 21) of a Singapore Citizen or PR.
- An elderly parent of a Singapore Citizen.
- A student who has lived here and passed at least one national exam (like the PSLE or O-Levels).
Just meeting these rules doesn’t mean you’ll get approved. The government (ICA) wants to see that you have a stable income, plan to stay long-term, and comply with all laws.
How to Apply for PR for Indians in Singapore
The whole process is done online through the ICA website.
Step 1: Check Your Timing
Don't apply too early. It’s best to wait until you have worked here for at least 2 to 3 years so you can show a solid track record of paying taxes.
Step 2: Get Your Papers Ready
Once you start the online form, you only have 7 days to upload everything. Have all your files scanned and ready before you begin.
Step 3: Get Official Translations
If your birth certificate or marriage license from India is not in English, you must get it translated and stamped by an official.
Step 4: Pay the Fee
You’ll pay a S$100 fee per person to the government to process your application.
4 Pathways to Permanent Residency for Indians
There isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to residency. Most Indian nationals secure their status through one of these four government-approved routes, depending on their career stage and financial profile.
The Professional & Skilled Worker Route (PTS Scheme)
This is the primary path for most Indian expats. If you are currently working in Singapore on an Employment Pass (EP) or S Pass, you can apply under this scheme. While you are technically eligible after six months, having at least 24 months of local tax history is highly recommended to demonstrate to the ICA that you are a stable contributor.
The Student Path (Foreign Student Scheme)
Younger Indian nationals who have moved here for education can apply for PR independently. To qualify, you must have resided in Singapore for at least two years and passed at least one national milestone exam (such as the PSLE, N-Levels, O-Levels, or A-Levels).
The Investor Route (Global Investor Programme)
Designed for ultra-high-net-worth Indian entrepreneurs and business owners, the GIP is a "fast-track" for those ready to make significant economic contributions. This involves investing either S$10 million in a new business or S$25 million in an approved GIP fund.
The Family Path (Sponsorship Scheme)
If you are the spouse or the unmarried child (under 21) of a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident, you can be sponsored for residency. The ICA reviews these cases based on the sponsor’s ability to support the family unit financially.
2026 Document Checklist for PR Applications
Success at the ICA portal starts with organisation. A single missing file or a blurry scan can lead to an immediate rejection.
1.
- Identity & Legal Documents
- Digital Photo: A clear, colour passport photo taken recently against a white background.
- Current Passport: High-resolution scan of your personal info page (ensure it isn't expiring soon).
- National ID: Copy of your Indian identity card (front and back).
- Valid Work Pass: Digital copy of your EP, S Pass, or PEP card.
- Birth Certificate: Must show both of your parents' full names.
- Proof of Name Change: If you have updated your name, provide the official deed poll or religious certificate.
2.
- Qualifications & Career History
- Degree Certificates: All higher education certificates (Bachelors, Masters, etc.).
- Academic Transcripts: Detailed grade sheets for every year of your university studies.
- Professional Accreditations: Any specialised licenses or memberships relevant to your industry.
3.
- Financial & Employment Evidence
- Official Employer Letter: A fresh letter from your HR (dated within the last 30 days) stating your job title, salary, and date of joining.
- 6 Months of Payslips: Your most recent consecutive monthly pay records.
- Tax Assessments (IRAS): Your Notice of Assessment for the last three years in Singapore.
- Business Records: If you run your own company, provide your latest ACRA profile and three years of audited financial statements.
4.
- Family Records (If Applying Together)
- Marriage Certificate: Required if your marriage was not registered in Singapore.
- Dependent Identity Papers: Passports and birth certificates for your spouse and children.
- Custody Documents: If applying with children from a previous marriage, provide legal proof of custody.
5.
- The "Difference Makers" (Supporting Evidence)
- Personal Cover Letter: A short, professional write-up explaining your loyalty to Singapore and why you want to make it your permanent home.
- Integration Proof: Evidence of local volunteer work, donations to Singaporean charities, or active participation in community clubs.
Important Submission Tips for Indian Applicants:
- Notarised Translations: The ICA is strict; any document from India that is not in English must be translated and notarised by a recognised authority or the Indian High Commission.
- Format Matters: Save all documents in high-quality PDF or JPEG formats. Ensure the file size meets ICA limits without losing clarity.
- Check Your Data: Make sure the numbers on your payslips match the numbers in your tax forms and Singpass declaration. Even a $1 discrepancy can flag your application for review.
